The Psychedelic Furs
September 24, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
The Psychedelic Furs on The Singles Tour with special guest BASH & POP arrive at the Capitol Theatre! If you were to dissect the today’s alternative rock music, you’ll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. The band is comprised of vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler, his bass-wielding brother Tim Butler, Richard Good (guitar), Mars Williams (saxophone), Amanda Kramer (keyboards) and Paul Garisto (drums). The Psychedelic Furs scored major hits with Love My Way, Pretty In Pink, Heaven, The Ghost In You, and Heartbreak Beat in all releasing seven studio albums, spawning several compilations, a boxed set and a live concert DVD.
Born out of the post-punk UK rock scene, the Furs quickly developed as one of the premiere bands on US College and Modern Rock radio scoring a multitude of #1 singles. With the advent of MTV in the early 80s the band took off into the stratosphere, and when John Hughes’ approached the band with his film built around the Furs’ song Pretty In Pink, the band’s legacy was cemented.
Bash & Pop released a new album this year – Anything Could Happen – Sporting nine rockers and three ballads, Anything Could Happen is the long awaited follow-up to 1992’s Friday Night Is Killing Me. The helmsman of the group is one Thomas Eugene Stinson, better known as Tommy of The Replacements – the seminal band of which he was co-founder, bassist and sparkplug. Now, coming off an 18-year stretch playing bass with stadium rockers Guns N’ Roses and a hugely successful 33-show Replacements reunion romp, Tommy is jazzed to be doing his own thing again.
Bash & Pop’s lead guitarists are Steve Selvidge (The Hold Steady) and Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars); the drum stool is shared by Frank Ferrer (Guns N’ Roses, The Psychedelic Furs) and Joe Sirois (The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Roll The Tanks); Cat Popper (Ryan Adams, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Jack White) – plays bass when Tommy doesn’t; Tony Kieraldo takes care of all keys; Justin Perkins (Screeching Weasel) laid down some acoustic guitar, percussion and backing vocals in addition to mixing and mastering the record. Chip Roberts (The Drinkers, one-400’s) and Davey Lane (You Am I) guest on guitar.
Tickets are $65, $49, and $35. Performance is a the Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St, Downtown Clearwater.
